Everyone Belongs Painting

A gentle, inclusive art project where every child adds something of their own. (free print at the end!)

Share to:

We did this one together as a group, using simple leaf branch outlines printed on paper. Each child took turns adding their own fingerprint or paint mark to help “fill out the leaves.” Some dotted their prints across the whole page, others chose one branch to add to. No two looked the same, but every single one felt whole.

It’s a lovely reminder that community doesn’t have to mean being the same—just showing up, adding your part, and being seen. You can use this with any group, big or small, and it’s a great one for those conversations around kindness, belonging, and contribution.

You’ll need

  • Printed leaf/branch outlines (PDF available below)

  • Paint in various colours

  • Cotton buds or fingers for printing

  • A cloth and water for hand-wiping after

How to make them

Print off the leaf template or draw your own on paper or cardboard. Set out a few small bowls of paint and let each child add a print or dab to help fill the branches. You can talk about how each mark is different but important. Once everyone has contributed, the artwork is complete. Hang them up as a visual reminder that everyone’s part matters.

A last note

You don’t need perfect prints or fancy materials. The real value here is in the act of creating something together. This can be a beautiful group display or an individual take-home reminder that they’re part of something. You’ll find a free downloadable PDF template above if you’d like to try it at home or in your own group space.
