About Me Rainbow

Share to:

This is one of my favourite “get to know you” activities, especially when a new group is settling in.

Each child creates their own cloud with their name on it, then adds rainbow strips with little prompts about who they are. It’s simple, colourful, and it opens up so many lovely conversations without putting anyone on the spot.

We used the set of questions in the images here, then printed each question on a different coloured strip, so the rainbow built itself as they glued.

You’ll Need

• White paper (for the cloud template)

• Coloured paper (for rainbow strips)

• Glue

• Scissors

• Markers or pens

• Optional: a printed list of prompts, or make up your own

How To

Print or draw cloud shapes on white paper.

Write each child’s name on their cloud.

Cut coloured paper into long strips, rainbow style.

Add prompts onto the strips. We printed one prompt per strip, with each prompt on a different colour.

Children glue their strips onto the cloud, stacking them like a rainbow.

Kids can fill in their answers directly on the strips, or write first then glue, depending on age and preference.

Optional: If you have coloured paper and a marker, you can skip printing completely and write your own questions straight onto the strips.

What It Encourages

This activity supports:

• Self awareness

• Confidence and identity building

• Language and communication skills

• Fine motor skills

• Creativity

• Social connection and peer learning

• Emotional expression in a low pressure way

It’s also a beautiful “bridge” activity for new groups, shy kids, or the start of a new term.

A Last Note

Some children love sharing their answers out loud, others prefer to keep theirs private. Both are perfect.

You can also swap prompts depending on the group. Keeping a few questions lighter can help kids feel safe and playful while they settle in
