My Favourite things frames
This one is all about identity.
We asked our local dollar store if they had spare cardboard out the back and they happily handed some over. From there, we cut out simple photo-style frames and turned them into little windows of self expression.
Around the border, everyone wrote their favourite things. Food, colours, animals, people, places. Whatever came to mind. It’s such a gentle way to explore who we are right now.
You’ll Need
• Cardboard
• Scissors
• Coloured paper
• Glue
• Markers or pens
• Optional: pencils and rulers for neat edges
How To
Cut a large rectangle out of cardboard.
Cut a smaller rectangle from the centre to create a frame shape.
Cut strips of coloured paper to match the width of the frame edges.
Glue the coloured paper strips around the outside border.
Once dry, write your favourite things around the frame.
Hold it up like a photo frame, hang it on the wall, or use it as part of a display.
What It Encourages
This activity supports:
• Self awareness
• Emotional expression
• Fine motor skills
• Creative thinking
• Confidence in sharing preferences
• Conversation skills
• Community building when shared in a group
It also opens beautiful discussions about how our favourites can change over time.
A Last Note
Cardboard from shops is often headed for recycling or landfill, so asking first gives it a second life.
Scissors always need supervision depending on age, and sharp corners can be trimmed if needed.
There’s no right or wrong list of favourites. This is about celebrating individuality.
