Nature Bracelets

Nature bracelets are one of my favourite activities to keep in my back pocket when we're out exploring. They're incredibly simple, require very little preparation, and children of all ages seem to love them.

As children wander, they can collect tiny treasures and add them to their bracelet along the way. It encourages them to slow down, notice details, and become little nature collectors.

I always keep a roll of tape in my bag for this exact reason. A spontaneous walk can turn into a nature adventure within seconds.

You'll Need

• Clear tape or double-sided tape
• Optional strip of card or paper
• Scissors
• A space to explore

How To

Create a bracelet by wrapping clear tape around a child's wrist with the sticky side facing out.

Alternatively, attach double-sided tape to a strip of card and secure it around their wrist.

Head outside and explore.

Invite children to collect small natural treasures that catch their eye.

Press each item onto the bracelet as they wander.

Continue adding pieces throughout your walk, play session, or adventure.

At the end, take time to admire the collection and talk about what was found.

What It Encourages

This activity supports:

• Observation skills
• Nature connection
• Fine motor development
• Curiosity and exploration
• Descriptive language
• Decision making
• Mindfulness and slowing down

Nature bracelets encourage children to notice the small details that are often missed when moving quickly through an environment.

A Last Note

I always keep a roll of tape in my bag because nature bracelets can be made almost anywhere with very little preparation.

Encourage children to collect fallen items where possible and leave living plants growing. The goal is to notice and appreciate nature while treating it with care and respect.
